The Thanet Water Abstraction Group represents 32 growers and abstractors in the eastern regions of the River Stour Nr the Isle of Thanet. All members farm very productive soils, producing a wide range of horticultural crops. The group initially formed following letters of potential environmental damage from abstraction, unofficially creating the group in January of 2024 before formally forming the group in June of 2024. Our facilitator is in constant contact with the EA, NFU, SERT, and WRSE on the ongoing abstraction situation. Members meet frequently to discuss a range of issues and non-abstraction-based issues. Communication is via email and WhatsApp group for members, but is kept very informal.
